AWANA CARNIVAL:  This family event of food and fun is scheduled for Wed., Sept. 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

FELLOWSHIP HALL PROGRESS:  There's much going on behind the scenes, but obvious improvements so far include the installation of sheetrock on the walls and large blue acoustic panels on walls and ceiling (do we miss walls we could pet?).  6 new heating and air-conditioning units are installed on the ceiling, although not operative yet.  These units are boxed in wood panels. A half-wall has been erected in the northeast corner to serve as the audio/video booth.  6" pieces of wood trim have been installed horizontally around the perimeter of the room about 6' up.  The 4 large windows on the west wall have been replaced with similar aluminum framed insulated windows and are trimmed in wood.  The bank of windows high on the east wall have been covered to eliminate the glare of morning sun.  The wood planks remain on the ceiling along with the wood beams and light wells that contribute to the room's architectural appeal.  The kitchen volunteers must be grateful the cutting of sheetrock is done and dust is no longer an issue, but the area remains off-limits as the remodeling continues into Sept.

MEDIA UPDATE:  The content of our weekly service bulletin has been minimized in an effort to reduce expenses.  Some information you've become accustom to reading in the bulletin is now displayed on the hallway and Welcome Center tv monitors and the overhead video screen in the sanctuary (fellowship hall too in due time) before worship services.  If you miss an announcement, you can find it on this website page; check back frequently for updates.  Continue to provide Barb, Office Manager, with information you'd like posted for Sunday and she will relay your information to the media/tech team - don't delay for timely postings.

E-NEWSLETTER REQUEST:  For your convenience, you can request the monthly e-mailing of our newsletter, The Circuit Writer, and discontinue the postal mailing of a hardcopy issue by completing and submitting this form, e-mail Barb at bsgumc@cityofbryan.net or call the office.

CURRENT MISSION PROJECTS:  Our Mission Council is currently raising funds to help Wings of the Morning in the North Katanga Conference of the Democratic Republic of Congo purchase a new plane.  The Council continues to support the Nothing but Nets campaign that purchases mosquito nets for $10 to combat malaria.  You can also make contributions to Haiti for Hurricane Relief through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) that tracks your donation to ensure 100% goes to relief efforts you designate (get an update on Haiti relief efforts here).  Donations are accepted through our church office.  Be sure to make notation on your check to easily identify where your contributions should be directed.  The Mission Council would also like to remind you of our commitment to sponsoring a bed at Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti since 2002.  Donations are needed to meet this year's obligation.   You can also assemble Health Kits with the following items and leave them in the church office: hand towel, washcloth, large comb, nail file or nail clippers, bath soap, toothbrush, 6 strip bandages and $1 for toothpaste.  As part of our local outreach, the Council seeks referral of attendees or non-attendees who need assistance or have special tasks to be completed.  Local outreach also includes the distribution of perishable food items on the third Weds. of each month.  Contact Dr. John Moats and Jo Moats, Co-Chairpersons of Mission Council.

MISSION NEWS:  News and updates about our Mission Partners are posted on the kiosk in the narthex.  That is, the larg free standing triangular display (there are 2) in the area just inside the primary entrance before entering the sanctuary.  Current postings include a list of needed items for Henderson Settlement and information on donating a Healthy Birth Kit or sponsoring the Healthy Birth Program (International Childcare) for mothers in Haiti.  Read the recent newsletter from Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti and read of Dan Terry's work, and his murder on Aug. 8, 2010, in Afghanistan with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries.

WALK TO EMMAUS:  We will be hosting both Men and Women for this event on the second and third weekends of October, respectively.  You can learn more about these spiritual retreats by visiting www.Upperroom.org/Emmaus.  To fill out an application, contact a pastor and they will pair you with a sponsor.   Early application ensures a spot for this particular weekend and location.

BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS AND HOW IT WILL AFFECT YOU:  The Wesley Board has put in place a 3-Phase Plan to upgrade our facility, both cosmetically and in energy efficiency.  Phase one began July 19th and focuses on the renovation of the Fellowship Hall.  This includes replacing heating/cooling in the Fellowship Hall (and kitchen), upgraded sound system and new acoustical wall coverings, flooring, windows & lighting.  The hall will be closed until completed in Sept.  The two remaining phases include replacing heating/cooling in the education wing, sanctuary, chapel, lounge and offices and other needs.  Phase one is being funded by last fall's Capital Campaign.  Additional monies will be needed to complete the last two.  Read more detail about this improvement project in the July newsletter.  An information session will be scheduled soon and progress reports will be given as the work is underway.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY LEADER NEEDED:  Lana Missler has long served as the coordinator of this gracious ministry in which meals are planned, prepared and served as an outreach ministry and she is stepping down from this responsibility.  Is this a role you could fill?  This includes meals for community events and monthly meetings, occasional receptions and funeral luncheons.  Long-standing volunteers are there to assist, members often donate food dishes and meals are generally simple to prepare and present.  Please contact the office if this appears to be a way in which you can serve.

FREE FOOD EVERY 3RD WEDS.:  Spread the word!  Wesley distributes perishable items from the building at the west end of our parking lot from noon to 4:00 p.m. to anyone in the community.  Bring bags or boxes to carry items.  Monetary donations can be made through the office.  Please note on your check "Free Food Project".

PHOTOS WANTED:  Outdated photos were recently deleted from our website photo albums, making room for your photos of recent activities.  Submit your photo to wesleywebsite@gmail.com.  Be sure to identify people, activity and date.

ATTENTION YOUTH/CHILDREN LEADERS/TEACHERS: If you are an adult or older youth currently assisting with any youth or children's ministry program or group, OR there is potential for that in your near future, you are required to attend the PERSONAL MISCONDUCT PREVENTION POLICY AND PROCEDURES TRAINING (If you previously attended this training, you are not required to repeat it, but if you'd like another copy of the policy, you can request one from the office).  This policy was mandated by our conference as a standard by which we support and guide our young people so they may feel safe and confident as they grow in faith at Wesley.  Please contact the church office if you were not able to attend the trainings in May.

REMINDER ABOUT YOUR GIVING:  When sending a check for payment on something other than your regular offering, be sure to note this on the check so the money is directed appropriately.  When fulfilling your pledge for our capital campaign, please note "Writing the Next Chapter".  When paying in cash, be sure to mark the envelope, whether it is for altar flowers, mission project donation, book fee, etc.  Remember, you can arrange for pledges and offerings to be deducted from your checking or savings account once or twice a month.  Contact the office for more information about this convenient method of contributing.
