Youth Missions

"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me." Matthew 25: 35-36

The things we do can express the love of God. Jesus demonstrated the compassionate attitude we should have in helping others. He also modeled many ways in which we can help. The same kindness and concern can be expressed in the world we live in today. Imagine yourself as the hands and feet of Christ.

Doing good works and participating in God's mission is a part of our growth as Christians. We learn more about God's intention for us and identify the unique skills, or gifts, he's given to us. Serving in missions prepares us to accept grace and strengthens our belief. As our faith grows, our desire intensifies.

When we serve others, we either introduce Jesus to them, or remind them he is close. Those people with needs draw strength during critical times from our presence as we represent Jesus.

From time to time, our Youth do community service projects locally and take mission trips.

Child Sponsorship with Compassion International

Meet Ndayishimiye Emmanuel of Rwanda, Africa.

In September of 2010, while enjoying Ichthus Music Festival (Fort Wayne), Senior High members committed to long-term sponsorship of 8 year old Nday while visiting a Compassion International booth. They chose Nday primarily because he had been waiting sponsorship for 15 months and he also lived in an AIDS-infected area. Through sponsorship, Nday attends a Student Center in Kamuhoza where he can participate in bible teaching, choir, health screenings, hygiene and nutrition education, games and field trips. He will be provided opportunities to serve the needy, receive scholastic materials and tutoring. To continue this sponsorship, youth are asked to contribute $1 per month. They also encourage Nday with monthly letters and photos.

Nday enjoys church activities, soccer and running. He has two siblings. His mother and father are sometimes employed as farmers. See the monthly newsletter for updates on his status as provided by Compassion International or read an excerpt from a recent letter.
